Prevention of STD infections

Unprotected sexual intercourse and masturbation alongside giving sexual satisfaction have led to issues pain, heart diseases and impotency as a result of the many damaging diseases that may be contracted during the process. It is important to fulfill ones sexual urges but also safely.

A concern is that the world should also use the social media to talk their fear on STDs alongside other things to create awareness and sensitize people to seek Prevention of STD infections and treatment thus protecting their adverse effects. Usually when STDs are diagnosed early they are treatable. However, the carrier may consciously cause their patient to suffer the infection or else be unaware of their state, especially and transmission during latency.

STDs on the rise

According to the World Health Organization, the common STDs are on their increasing rate and it is important for people to know the different kinds and get treatment. They are

  1. Syphilis- this infection is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It starts as a painless sore and it is linked with major cases of fetal and neonatal deaths because of its occurrence during pregnancy. It presents in four stages i.e. the primary stage which occurs between 3-90 days after exposure with a painless sore as the sign, secondary stage occurring after 4-10 weeks after initial infection when the initial sores have just healed but also the patient suffers body rashes. The latent stage advances to tertiary stage if left untreated, especially after a period of 3-15 years after initial infection and might affect the internal organs. It can be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancies and also through unprotected sex.
  2. Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) - It is the most common form of STDs and presents as warts on the genitalia or the skin surrounding them causing cases of cervical cancers. It is transmitted through unprotected sex with infected individuals.
  3. Genital Herpes- caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1&HSV-2) which are responsible for oral herpes and genital herpes respectively although both could lead to genital herpes.HSV-2 affects most the genitalia and are more common in women than in men since transmission is more effective from men to women than from women to men during penile-vaginal sex. Pain, itching and small sores are signs at the beginning and would form scabs and ulcers if left untreated.
  4. Gonorrhea- caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and may result to infertility if untreated. Presents with abnormal discharges from vagina, penis or anus, painful urination or intercourse, bouts, fever, pain in lower abdomen, pelvis, testicles or frequent vaginal urge to urination alongside irregular menstruations.
  5. Chlamydia- caused by chlamydia bacteria transmitted through unprotected sex.

 Prevention

  • Use condoms before sex
  • Know the status of your partner even before foreplay and sex
  • Forbid oral and anal sex
  • Regular screening
