Four Reasons for Bumps on Genital Skin
Date: April 24th, 2018
Here are four common STIs that can result in the formation of bumps on the genital skin.
1. Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV is a viral disease that can lead to the formation of bumps around or on the genitals. They are generally in the form of small clusters and grow in patches. The warts are of the same color as the penile skin. While the bumps are not painful, they can remain on the penis unless treated with a medication.
2. Syphilis
Another STD that can lead to the formation of bumps on the genital skin. The bumps appear like a sore on the genital area. They are caused by bacteria and can be treated using antibiotics. Even without using medication, the sore or bump may go away on their own. However, the infection is still there and can cause serious damage to the body if left alone.
3. Genital Herpes
The third common reason for bumps on the genitals is genital herpes. Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2) comes in the form of a cluster of small round shaped blisters. The bumps are filled with fluids that rupture after a few days. After bursting, the bumps appear reddish in color. Unlike bumps caused by syphilis, the blisters caused by herpes are painful.
4. Molluscum Contagiosum
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral sexual disease that causes reddish color bumps on the genital skin. It results in a shiny flesh-toned spot having a sunken appearance.
Importance of Regular STD Testing
Regular STD testing is particularly important if you are sexually active. It's the only way you will know whether the bumps on your genitals are actually caused by an STD. You can order private STD testing and same day STD testing that will ensure maximum privacy and convenience for you.
