What is So Alarming about The Antibiotics Resistant Gonorhea?
Gonorrhea and its resistance to antibiotics
The public health experts are now showing their worries about the growing issue in accordance with the antibiotics resistant issue with gonorrhea patients. Just in February, the health officers in Britain were alarmed with the doctors and pharmacies plea about the possible risks of the drug resistant strains of the STI. That problem is now mirrored by Dr. Robert Kirkcaldy of the US CDC. The resistant gonorrhea and the vision of the facts about gonorrhea that cannot be treated are a real threat. This is in accordance with the resistant strains that are now determined in various parts of the globe.
The hazard of the gonorrhea that cannot be treated is very important in determining some fresh choices to make sure that there will be treatments and rules on how infected people must be treated thus the awareness of the people will increase and they will know how to protect themselves against the infection. Gonorrhea is highly transmittable and it will spread through the sex organ if it will be unprotected during an intercourse. Over 35,00 new instances were reported in the US in 2014, this is in accordance with the CDC.
The signs of infection
The signs of the infection are not always visible. If it will be undetected and uncured, gonorrhea might lead to an inflammation of the pelvis, ectopic pregnancy or infertility. There may also be a chronic pelvic pain based on the CDC reports. To avert complications linked to it, the US Preventive Service Task Force headed by Dr. Domingo said that older women are at risk and all those who are sexually active upon reaching the age of 24. Those who are younger must also go through a routine screening for the said infection.
They also didn’t release a particular guidance for men. However, the CDC said that anyone who will be sexually active is at risk of having gonorrhea. They have suggested that men having sex with other men must go through the tests annually to check if they are infected. At present, gonorrhea is easy to treat. Starting in 2012, the CDC has said that the doctors and other health officials must use a mixture of therapy to be able to cure the infection. The combination consists of antibiotics that must be injected like ceftriaxone with the antibiotic pill called azithromycin. In 2014, over 97% of the US cases has been cured according to the methods stated, more than 9% in 2006 were given with the said combination.
It is just that; the CDC has estimated that there will be around 2M Americans that will be infected with gonorrhea; they will be resistant to 1 antibiotic. However, there will be no patients have stated that they have failed to treat gonorrhea with the present recommended combination of ceftriaxone as well as azithromycin in the US.
