The Signs of Having An STD: What You Should Know
Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming more and more common as the years go by. Thousands of people have been infected by with STDs and that number increases every year. The best way to avoid coming in contact with any type of sexually transmitted infection is practicing safe sex. If you are sexually active, it is also recommended that you get tested yearly for all STDs and tested again by a medical professional if you show any signs of having an STD.
Common STDs & Their Symptoms
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is one of the more difficult sexually transmitted diseases to notice without an STD test. In most cases, it does not exhibit any noticeable symptoms. However, when it does it shows the following:
- Abdominal pain
- Abnormal discharge from penis or vagina
- Burning during urination
​Gonorrhea
Another common STD is Gonorrhea. The signs of having an STD like Gonorrhea are similar to other STDs, but it’s helpful to know them none than less.
- Pain during intercourse
- Abnormal discharge
- Frequent and painful urination
Syphilis
Unlike other STDs, Syphilis has symptoms that are easily noticeable. If you recognize any of the following symptoms you should get tested right away to avoid long term health problems.
- Ulcer
- Skin rash
- Fatigue
- Sore throat
It is important that all members of the community be aware of the increasing instances of sexually transmitted diseases. Being knowledgeable about the signs of having an STD and how they are treated is the best way to ensure that you remain healthy as a sexually active teenager or adult.
