The role of male circumcision
Circumcision which entails removal of the penis foreskin is done for cultural and ritual reasons. Mostly, the procedure is done on infants but in the recent times, male adults are going for the procedure too.
Health benefits of male circumcision
Male circumcision has played a significant role in reducing the urinary tract infections (UTI) in the United States. In adults, UTI is not a major issue while in children it can lead to kidney problems. New studies have shown the health advantages of carrying out the procedure. Thus many male adults opt to go for it. Children take minimum time even an overnight to heal from the circumcision as compared to the adults who take much longer. An aesthesia is administered and the need to abstain from sex for at least one week is required for one to recuperate.
Circumcision plays a significant role in lowering the risks of HIV infections, herpes, HVP and other STDs that causes genital warts. Past research by the Medical Daily has shown the capabilities of circumcision reducing the risk of transmitting HIV infections in men by a range of 50-60%. Dr Paul Turk, men’s health expert who works at Turek Clinic in California says that the foreskin reserves secretion that contains viruses such as herpes and HIV. Having an unprotected intercourse with persons whose secretions are on the hood of the penis increases the chances of contracting these infections.
Relations of Circumcision to Cancer and fertility
Studies show that Men who are diagnosed with penile cancer are not circumcised. The cutting of the foreskin minimizes a man’s chance of getting penile cancer. Similar to cervical cancer, scientists say that penile cancer is caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Circumcision reduces the transmission of HPV and therefore less likelihood of developing penile cancer.
According to the Highlight Health, male circumcision hinders occurrence of inflammation and infections that can result to prostate carcinogenesis. Research conducted by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and School of Medicine at the University of Washington indicate that men who have undergone the procedure record a 15% lower rate of getting prostate cancer.
Fertility issues in men can be determined by whether they are circumcised or not. Circumcision plays an essential role in boosting productivity. Cases of infertility are often raised by uncircumcised male adults. These men mostly suffer from phimosis, a condition which causes inability to retract the foreskin. It makes it extremely tight thus problems during sex and fertility too. Once the cutting of the foreskin is done, the problem ceases and productivity can be boosted back.
Adult men, as well as infants, are recommended t o undergo the procedure as it has many health benefits that leave a significant mark in someone’s life. It is also an ideal way of preventing lifelong kidney problems among the young boys.
