How Rhode Island STD Infections Rise?
Sexually transmitted diseases rising in Rhode Island
The rates of the HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are now rising in Rhode Island. There is a trend in the department of health in this state that attributes to better testing and high rates of high probable odds for sexual behavior. The officials in Rhode Island said that the cases of gonorrhea went up by 30% and there are newly identified HIV cases growing by around 33%. The infectious syphilis cases on the other hand are rising by around 79% and this is quite alarming STD rise in Rhode Island.
Men having sex with men are growing in numbers and there are still new cases of HIV and AIDS along with syphilis, this is according to the state records. On the other hand, the infection rates continue to go up and it is now affecting the African and Americans even those with Hispanics root along with the young adults. The health department is pointing fingers on the rising level of instances because of the high risk sexual behaviors that have become more typical in the past years. That includes having sex without any protection like the use of condom, having sex with different partners and having sex while under the influence of drugs. However, it has provided an added reason for the growing number of STD instances that has taken so much attention from the media, through the use of social media to fix sexual encounters.
The contribution of mobile apps to the growing rate of STD cases
Certain mobile applications like Down, Tinder and Grindr enable the strangers to meet each other even in places where the cases of STDs are high. Some are even using these apps to look for dates and to find their partners. These apps are for those who want to find someone to date on purpose, while the others are just looking for a casual sex partner. The Rhode Island health workers say that the apps boost the people to engage in casual sex even if they are not familiar with their partners. This puts their welfare and health at risk for getting STD infections without their awareness.
Rhode Island is not the only place in the US that suffers from the growing numbers of syphilis infection rates, because according to the data of taken by the CDC regarding the new HIV infections, it went up by more than 12% in 2008 and in 2010 among men who had same sex partners. The data signifies a clear sign that even if they are exerting too much effort in making the STD cases go down and HIV for years, there is a lot of work that must be done. This is in accordance with the statement revealed by Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott. She is the director of the Department of Health in Rhode Island. However, she noticed that the STD rise in Rhode Island is alarming.
