Youths Should Be Offered Sexual Health Education Early

Between January and April last year, Lubbock County reported 41 cases of syphilis infections, which is triple the rate that was a year earlier. Chlamydia cases were also high in comparison to previous data, but HIV and gonorrhea were still in control. Lubbock is known to have a high rate of sexually transmitted diseases cases, where it ranks at number 15 among all the counties in Texas.

Confirmation After A Serious Research

The report showed that Lubbock’s gonorrhea infections in 2015 put the county at number 3 after the STD Testing of its population. It also ranks at number 11 for chlamydia tests.
Many residents in the county do at least an STD Test in a day, but for a better report, the research was done on 100,000 people sample. Based on a 2015 census in the county, it has 299,453 people and it’s at number 18 in the state based on population. Every STD Test made up the 100,000 sample to get the average infections.

The syphilis data wasn’t used for the ranking, but Lubbock’s health Department director, Katherine Wells hopes that after the factoring of the previous year’s STD Tests data, the county will be rated among the rest.

Lubbock Is Not Exceptional

Katherine, however, clarifies that the county shouldn’t be singled out as the worst hit by STD infections. It should be considered that nationwide many patients prefer to do Private STD Testing, and if every case was brought to book then it will be known that syphilis is spreading nationwide


According to Lubbock health officials, the most affected age group is between 15 and 24 years. It’s understandable because they are at the very active age for sexual activities, and even with the availability of Same Day STD Testing they don’t consider taking private STD Testing before they engage in sex. They want to experience and enjoy the fun without considering that it comes with repercussions when done recklessly.

What Could Be The Cause Of The Increase?

Social media is to blame for the exposure it gives to the teenagers. They can easily plan on how to hook up without the knowledge of their parents. When they like each other’s profile pictures and agree on the location to meet for intimacy, the thought of taking STD Tests to understand each other’s status doesn’t feature.

Lack of education on STDs is also a major factor. Like in the case of Lubbock for example, teenagers start engaging in sexual activities too early. Its common now to see a kid aged 14 or 15 years who is already sexually active. They aren’t worried about an STD Testing that will turn positive; their main worry is to become pregnant in the process of having fun.

Sex education in Lubbock to those young souls is inevitable. They should be told the importance of using contraceptives to avoid pregnancy, and the bigger importance of using condoms to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases.
